Short Description
We offer a recognised, cutting edge Postgraduate Programme in Social Policy with expert professors and international collaborations. We develop interdisciplinary studies in a very friendly and well-organized academic environment. We have many years of experience, hundreds of graduates, visibility in academia and penetration in the labour market. Above all, we respect the expectations of our students and return the investment they make in our programme.
‘Social Policy’ in our programme means development, design, analysis and evaluation of mostly public policies with social redistribution as the means and social justice as the goal. Our three specialisations cover a most wide range of issues including migration, citizenship and social discrimination, economics, the administration and evaluation of health services and policies, contemporary reforms of social policy systems and the Europeanisation of social rights.
The programme delves into and interdisciplinarily analyses the response of organised societies to the grand challenges of the 21st century linked to global issues ranging from poverty and inequalities to new forms of work and climate change.

Knowledge, skills and career prospects
The programme explores all contemporary social policy issues at national and supranational level. It examines theoretical questions of social policy as an interdisciplinary field in order to understand and interpret social interventions in areas such as migration and combating social discrimination, the effective organisation and management of health services, and the Europeanisation and internationalisation of social policy on the path towards European integration. In this context, it equips students with a broad range of high-level knowledge and skills that systematically strengthen their career prospects in relevant international and national organisations, in the public and private sector, in NGOs, civil society organisations, social entrepreneurship, etc.
Eligible degree holders
The programme accepts graduates of all departments of Greek Higher Education Institutions, as well as graduates of equivalent recognised institutions abroad.
Curriculum by specialisation
European Social Policy & Social Rights
The specialisation offers an interdisciplinary, in-depth study of European Social Policy (ESP), the most important range of supranational social interventions worldwide, shaped within the framework of European Integration. The development of ESP has always been inextricably linked with the development of Social Rights (SR), which form the core of the European Social Model. The interaction between ESP and SR has fundamental economic, political and social implications and provides the basis for contemporary reforms Europeanising national social policy systems.
The programme examines the theoretical, methodological and empirical tools that provide analytical and synthetic knowledge and skills in order to understand and interpret issues such as the characteristics and objectives of ESP as well as its main fields of application. In the 21st century of major crises and rapid change, the ultimate aim of ESP and SR is to combine stable economic growth with fair social well-being – an aim founded on European Social Rights and implemented through social redistribution of the economic benefits of European unification.

Health Economics, Management and Policy
The specialisation focuses on theories, concepts and tools from the fields of economics, management and health policy, with the aim of a systematic and comparative study of the health services market and of health systems. Emphasis is placed on sectoral health policies, on examining the factors related to the demand for and supply of health services, and on the mechanisms and models of financing and reimbursing health services. Strategic planning, the organisation of health units, and management policies for human resources and medical technology are themes that contribute decisively to rational decision-making and the allocation of scarce health resources.

Policies on Migration, Social Discrimination and Citizenship
The specialisation focuses on an interdisciplinary approach to migration in combination with the production and reproduction of social discrimination and inequalities in contemporary societies. Citizenship is also a key axis of analysis, both with regard to managing otherness and diversity and in relation to the very process of state, national and supranational formation.
Through theoretical and methodological approaches as well as specialised studies and research, the specialisation has a twofold aim: a. to offer comprehensive knowledge for understanding its subject areas, and b. to provide the necessary tools for designing and implementing policies on migration, social discrimination and citizenship in Greece and internationally.
